The film premiered at the South by Southwest Film Festival on 11 March 2022, and began a limited theatrical release in the United States on 25 March, before a wide release by A24 on 8 April. The film received widespread critical acclaim; reviewers praised its imagination, direction, Michelle Yeoh's performance, and handling of themes such as existentialism, nihilism, and Chinese-American identity. It has grossed over $100 million worldwide, surpassing Diamanti grezzi (2019) to become A24's highest-grossing film domestically.
