The white supremacist and white separatist movements were at their apex in the mid to late 1980's, with many organizations in Michigan, Florida, Washinton, Oregon, California, Idaho, Utah, Montana and other states. After the murder of Alan Berg, the FBI and ATF made dismantling them a top priority. In the 1990's, the federal siege at Ruby Ridge on the Randy Weaver family and the Siege at the Branch DavidIan Compound outside Waco, Texas, involved investigations by the ATF and the involvement of the FBI Hostage Rescue Team (HRT) with many of the same people from the FBI.
