Ron mentions a trip to Egypt he took with his family, and even shows him a newspaper article about it. This is much more significant in the book. The picture in the newspaper shows Ron holding Scabbers. In the book, Fudge gave the newspaper to Sirius when Sirius asked him for it because he wanted to do the crossword puzzle. Sirius, seeing the picture, recognized Scabbers as Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail, and resolved to take revenge on his former friend. He escaped by transforming into his dog form. Not knowing that Sirius was an animagus, the guards thought Sirius had already escaped, and released the harmless looking dog.
