In his memoir "Permanent Midnight," Jerry Stahl wrote about finding success as a television writer on this show, Moonlighting (1985), and In famiglia e con gli amici (1987), while simultaneously dealing with heroin addiction. The book was made into Hard Night (1998), starring Ben Stiller as Stahl. The movie showed several scenes on the set of this show, renamed "Mr. Chompers", including a nightmarish drug-induced hallucination featuring the show's puppet.
