Cinematographer Ian Jones turned up in Rolf de Heer's Vertigo Productions office one day. "Ian was always going to shoot it," said de Heer. Then ten minutes after Ian left, Head of the South Australian Film Corporation at the time, Judith Crombie, approached de Heer. He said: "She said she wanted to see me and did I 'have anything' of such and such a size, within specific parameters. And I said, 'Well, as a matter of fact, I do'." De Heer considered this one of the film's development's "extraordinary series of events".
