The film's characterization of Freeze, as well as Arnold Schwarzenegger's performance, were both widely criticized. Schwarzenegger was nominated for Worst Supporting Actor at the Golden Raspberry Awards for playing Mr. Freeze, but lost to Dennis Rodman for Double Team - Gioco di squadra (1997).
