The captain and officer were originally named "Jyuzo Kodai" (an appropriate name for an old captain, since "Kodai" means "ancient times") and "Susumu Okita", but Leiji Matsumoto decided felt that "Jyuzo Okita" was more pleasing to the ear, and swapped the names around to become "Jyuzo Okita and Susumu Kodai".
