Season 5 contains several allusions to Homer's The Odyssey.-Odysseus, the protagonist of The Odyessy, spends seven years on an island called Ogygia. Michael, who has been missing in the seven years since his supposed death, is imprisoned in a place called Ogygia.-In one part of the story, Odysseus battles and defeats a cyclops. One of the ISIS antagonists is named Cyclops, who captures but is defeated by Lincoln and Sheba.-Odysseus's quest is to return home to his family in Ithaca. Michael's family now lives in Ithaca, New York.-The main antagonist to the season is named Poseidon. Odysseus had made an enemy of Poseidon, Greek mythology's god of water.
