The film seems to suggest that both the American and National leagues had shut down during the war, but this is far from the fact. Both leagues filled their rosters by signing lifelong-minor league and retired--and in some cases high school--players. Some of the minor leagues were affected by the war, and many were forced to shut down for lack of players (many had been declared 4F by the military). The majority of the minor leagues never resumed playing once the war was over.
