Jordan Peele was the fourth black writer to be nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay. The previous nominees were: Suzanne De Passe (for La signora del blues (1972)), Spike Lee (for Fa' la cosa giusta (1989)), and John Singleton (for Boyz n the Hood - Strade violente (1991)). Peele was the first-ever black winner of an Oscar for best original screenplay.
