When Debbie Allen took over as showrunner in season 2, she wanted to center the storyline around Denise Huxtable being a pregnant student in college, as in real life Lisa Bonet was pregnant with her daughter at the time. However, Bill Cosby did not approve of this idea, so instead a compromise was agreed upon where Lisa Bonet would be written off of A Different World, Bonet would take a season off of The Cosby Show, and would return to the show the next season married and with a step child.
