David Leitch believed that both Deadpool as a character and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a universe are more flexible than fans give it credit for, stating "It's rated R so that's not necessarily the [MCU] brand but he doesn't necessarily need to be R and [Disney] don't necessarily need to only make PG-13 movies. I think we'll find a happy ground." Following Disney's purchase of 20th Century Fox, the rights reverted to Marvel Studios and then-current Disney CEO Robert A. Iger stated that the company was willing to continue making R-rated Deadpool films as long as they "let audiences know what's coming." MCU producer Kevin Feige later confirmed that future Deadpool films would carry the R rating.
