Tony Gardner is proud of how much he and his team at Alterian Inc. achieved with in-camera practical effects, and on a relatively tight budget. "There are a lot of effects in the film that people assume are digital. People think the [close-up] shot of Rami's head splitting in two is digital. But it was the same body that came apart in the wide shot." For the scene featuring floating ghosts, little heads with long fabric tails were constructed and shot in a water tank, just like in Raiders of the Lost Ark. The practical 'ghosts' were then digitally composited in.
