This is the third Scream film in which a survivor of a previous film does not return for the following film. In this case, Kirby Reed, who survived Scream 4 (2011), is absent from this film. This follows Mark Kincaid, who survived Scream 3 (2000) and was absent in both Scream 4 (2011) and this film, though he is mentioned to be married to Sidney here. Additionally, Neil Prescott survived the events of the first movie, was absent for the second film, but made a brief appearance in the third film.
