In several episodes, characters are heard using the term "scuttlebutt". A scuttlebutt is a water barrel, literally a scuttled (has a hole in it) butt (water container). It became maritime slang for gossip, as sailors would often talk around the water barrel. The modern, dry land version is water cooler talk but sailors stick with the original.
