In the scenes with Evelyn as a movie star conversing with Waymond, the dialogue, story, cinematography, color grading, and choppy slow-motion effects are references to Kar-Wai Wong films, in particular In the Mood for Love (2000). Ke Huy Quan was Wong's assistant director on the movie 2046 (2004), the sequel to In the Mood for Love.
