Stephen Graham revealed on There's Something About Movies (2019) that he got cast in the film by chance. He accompanied a friend to an audition and when his friend was done, Guy Ritchie asked Graham if he was next and handed him a script. As he has dyslexia, Graham told Ritchie that he'd need time to familiarise himself with the scene. Ritchie asked if he could improvise, Graham said he could and he got the part.
