Although James Earl Jones is credited as the voice of Darth Vader (beginning with Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part III (2022)), he didn't record any new lines for the show. Samples of Jones's voice were taken from archive material of the original trilogy. They were then used as the basis to recreate his voice with modern voice-cloning technology. On 23 September, 2022, Jones retired from voicing the character, but has allowed Lucasfilm to use his voice in archival footage and future Star Wars projects.
