According to music composer Nathan Furst, there were plans for further Bionicle movies that would have delved deeper into the story's origin. In this film, Turaga Lhikan confronts the evil Makuta that he had sworn to protect the Matoran citizens rather than enslave them. This line was intended to set up a prequel, which would have explained Makuta's origin as a protector and his fall to darkness. Since this film was never produced and the LEGO company cut ties with the animation studio Creative Capers, Makuta's backstory was instead told in the later Bionicle novels and online story serials, which finally revealed the meaning behind Turaga Lhikan's line.
