The large disk-and-pylon structure that McCloud rappels down from is in Flushing Meadow Park (Queens). It's the New York State Pavilion in the old 1964-1965 World's Fair Grounds. It originally had a stained glass roof above the large part of the pavilion with a map of New York State on the floor below. The glass was eventually removed as a falling safety hazard. In the early episodes, there was another quick shot of this landmark in which you could glimpse the state map.
