Mie Hama and Akiko Wakabayashi appeared in Il trionfo di King Kong (1963), and Kokusai himitsu keisatsu: Kagi no kagi (1965) (English title: Che fai, rubi? (1966)). The latter was a James Bond movie imitation which attracted them to the producers of genuine James Bond movies. A flaw was soon discovered: neither actress knew any English. Wakabayashi was cast as Kissy and Hama as Aki and both were tutored in English. Hama was having too much difficulty with English, so the two actresses swapped roles to give her the role of Kissy, which had fewer lines.
