Hong Kong pop star/actor Nicholas Tse at one point was offered the role of Goku, which would have marked his Hollywood debut. However, he declined but later learned when Yun-fat Chow signed on as Master Roshi, he regretted his decision. However, Tse and Chow would work together five years later in From Vegas to Macau (2014).
