The discontent with the shows early scripts wasn't limited to the production team. Following a phone conversation between Fox Kids VPE Sidney Iwanter and Warner Brothers animation president Jean MacCurdy, story editor Sean Catherine Derek was out and new story editor Alan Burnett was in. According to Bruce Timm "Sidney called up and he said these scripts aren't really delivering. We, you know, we need to talk. And it was at that point that they brought in Alan Burnett, who was put together as producer and the head of the writing. He was the executive producer, and he brought in the story editors Martin Pasko, Michael Reaves and Paul Dini. And it's those four people who really brought the narrative drive to the series."
