Dewey immediately suspects Richie, as he's Sam's love interest, like Billy Loomis was Sidney's. Richie's name is cleared when he's attacked in the hospital while looking for Tara. He later reveals himself to be one of the killers and that hospital incident was part of his plan. Liv, however, is set up numerous times as being too boring to be the killer, leading to the assumption that she may actually be the killer, due to the twist in Scream 3 where seemingly unassuming Roman is revealed as the killer. This theory goes out the window when Amber shoots Liv in the head, revealing herself as one of the killers.
