A CrossFit "hero" workout called murph ( 1 mile run, 100 pull ups , 200 push ups, 300 squats, and another mile run with a 20lb weight vest) was created in memory of Michael Murphy. This workout has been used in multiple CrossFit games (world championships). It is tradition within the CrossFit community to do this work out on Memorial Day.
