Despite bearing the title "Part III" (to which the studio insisted), Francis Ford Coppola considers this film to be the series' epilogue. For the movie's 30th anniversary in 2020, Coppola made an alternate version that cut out four minutes of footage and re-arranged the beginning and ending, which received a limited theatrical release under the title 'The Godfather Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone'. This version was also included in subsequent home video releases.
