The Johto Starter set is the only full starter set that Ash has obtained where none of the members were previously owned by another Trainer or the Pokémon Professor. Conversely, the Kanto Starters are the only full starter set that Ash has obtained where every member was owned by a previous Trainer (excluding Professors).
