Robin Williams was originally slated to be the Riddler on this movie; but was replaced at the last minute by Jim Carrey following the change of directors. This was after he was promised he would play Riddler in the third installment by Tim Burton, who threw this out as a consolation for rejecting him for the Joker in Batman (1989). Williams told the press "I've been screwed over twice by Batman."
