Thor and Cap deploy a move at the battle in the begining of the movie where Thor strikes Cap's shield with his hammer and lightning and it's subsequently re-directed towards their enemies. This effect was first shown in the first Avengers film when Thor, Iron Man, and Cap all fight. It was only when Thor tried to smash Cap's shield with Mjolnir and seeing the resulting destruction the explosion caused that they stopped fighting and came together.
