15 years after the series ended, it was announced that the series would return in 2005 and that Tom Baker would return as The Master. However, Tom Baker (The 4th Doctor) did not appear in the revived series as The Master. When the series returned in 2005, The Master was played by Derek Jacobi, John Simm and Michelle Gomez.
