John Huston originally wanted Charles Chaplin to play Noah. Chaplin didn't like the idea of appearing in a picture directed by someone else, and Huston wound up playing the role himself. Huston wanted Igor Stravinsky to score the film, but it didn't happen (on his sleeve notes for the score, Huston elliptically mentions copyright issues).
