Artistically speaking, neither Dame Elizabeth Taylor nor Richard Burton held this film in high regard, with Taylor doing it for the paycheck and Burton doing it to increase his profile in Hollywood. A few years later, after they had married, it became known that they had a copy of the British spoof comedy of this film, Ehi Cesare, vai da Cleopatra? Hai chiuso... (1964) on their yacht, the Kalizma, and would often show it to their guests.
