The film was announced to be co-starring actresses Liza Minnelli and Estelle Parsons according to an article published in the 21st August 1970 issue of show-business trade-paper 'Variety'. Principal photography at this time was scheduled to start on 21st September 1970 in New York City. The movie's film director attached for this incarnation of the picture's development was Hungarian filmmaker Ján Kadár. As such, Mark Rydell was no longer attached as the movie's film director and star Natalie Wood was no longer attached as a producer or lead actress.
