According to Josh Keaton, who voiced young Hercules, he was also originally supposed to provide young Hercules's singing voice on "Go The Distance", and he had finished recording it in full with the orchestra. However, upon listening to Keaton's take on the song, the filmmakers decided that his singing voice was too "pop", and lacked the "musical theater-y" sound of Disney songs at the time. Also, because Keaton was undergoing a voice change at the time the movie was being made, he couldn't hit the "5-minute" sustained note at the end of the song for longer than 4 minutes. Thus, Keaton's recording of the song was discarded, and Roger Bart was drafted to do the singing instead.
