Marie Antoinette is typically blamed for helping in the appointments of Charles Alexandre de Calonne (1734-1802) as the Controller-General of Finances (Finance Minister) in 1783, and Louis Auguste Le Tonnelier de Breteuil (1730-1807) as Minister for the Maison du Roi (administrator of the Royal household) in 1783. Both politicians were extremely conservative and blocked any efforts to make financial reforms in France prior to the French Revolution. The two appointments are thought to have hurt the country's economy.
