In the first season of the show, Superman was portrayed as unnaturally weak and constantly being the first to fall in fights, even weaker than his depiction in "Superman: The Animated Series". Bruce Timm and the co-creators admitted to this mistake of making "Superman a wimp" by overdoing the toning down of his powers in a misguided attempt to make threats seem more credible if even Superman was taken out after being criticised by fans, in a special DVD commentary of the first season.
