Gene Hackman offered to do one take himself of the scene where Ray beats up Harry, but Dennis Farina said no out of fear of hurting the legendary actor. He was worried that hurting him might upset him, and Farina said "If Gene gets mad at me, he's a big guy and he might come after me, and the only way I'd be able to stop him is to shoot him. And I don't want to be known as the guy that killed Gene Hackman."
