The original L'incredibile avventura (1963) did not feature the animals having voices, but instead relied on narration. The voicing of the animals requires significant suspension of disbelief in the remake, as the animals speak perfect English to one another -- replete with modern slang and colloquialisms -- yet cannot comprehend the humans, who speak the same language. This makes it challenging to believe the pets don't understand why they're being left behind.
