In the film, Clyde stops his car on a country road to help a friend change a flat tire. Once they realize the friend has set them up, Bonnie and Clyde look at each other lovingly, and make a desperate attempt to be in each other's arms before being cut down by machine gun fire. In reality, Bonnie and Clyde were ambushed on May 23, 1934, just outside Gibsland, Louisiana. They never left their car, which was hit by 187 bullets. Bonnie had a sandwich in her mouth.
