This is the second Star Trek film which Captain Kirk dies. William Shatner's incarnation of the character died in Generazioni (1994) four years earlier. Unlike Star Trek: Generations (1994) and like Star Trek II - L'ira di Khan (1982) and Star Trek III - Alla ricerca di Spock (1984), Kirk dies but is resurrected when McCoy injects his body with Khan's blood.
