Unlike the original novel and the 1990 miniseries, in this film, Beverly Marsh had to kill her abusive father in self-defense. Similarly, in Carrie - Lo sguardo di Satana (1976) as well as the original novel and its subsequent adaptations, Carrie White had to kill her abusive mother in self-defense. Both films are based on novels by Stephen King.
