Phoebe Waller-Bridge was a late addition to the screenwriting team, following several delays in production including the replacement of director Danny Boyle with Cary Joji Fukunaga. In interviews, Daniel Craig has denied rumors that Waller-Bridge was added to the writing team for reasons of gender inclusiveness and making the script more feminist. He insisted that she was invited at his own request because he considers her a great writer, and wanted her input in sharpening the script and punching up the dialogue.
