When Martins arrives at Dr. Winkel's home, the physician is seen about to carve a roast fowl in preparation for a fine meal with guests. Such an amount of food would not have been readily available to most of Vienna's residents in the post-war era of extreme shortages. This may be an allusion to the black market scenario involving Lime and his partners.
