DJ's often repeated line, "It's always open!" was a not-so-subtle message from the producers for the Olsen twins, letting them know that the door was always open for their return, whenever they chose. The Olsens had always refused the invitation. In early 2019, the last ditch effort was made to invite Mary Kate and Ashley to appear in the series finale. Candace Cameron Bure soon after stated publicly that the Olsen twins were "never coming back," making it apparent that the Olsens had turned down their last chance to be on the show before it ended.
