The opening sequence is a lovely homage to Lo squalo (1975). Both films open in 1975 with some teenagers going skinny dipping and one young man staying on the water's edge. There are several unnerving underwater shots creating a mood of tension before the teenagers are scared off by the riverboat. However, this time, the killer in the water is the chemicals.
