Gaspard Ulliel, who portrayed Anton Mogart / Midnight Man, died two months before 'Moon Knight' premiered, due to a brain injury caused by a skiing accident on January 19, 2022, at the age of 37. His death also happened two days after the first trailer for the miniseries was released. Despite the huge publicity that the news of his death brought to the series worldwide as the headlines were calling him "Moon Knight star", Disney and Marvel didn't share any statement nor tribute to Ulliel on their social media like they normally do when actors who starred in any of their productions have passed away. His death wasn't even mentioned on Moon Knight's official pages. An unnamed spokesperson for Disney only released a short note to Variety saying they were "deeply saddened to learn of the tragic passing" of their "friend and colleague". The only people from the cast or crew who mentioned Ulliel after his death (and before the series premiered) were actor Karim El Hakim in an Instagram post the day that Ulliel died, and actress May Calamawy in an interview for French magazine Premiere in February 2022. Ulliel wasn't featured in any kind of promotion for the series released before or after his death. Director Mohamed Diab talked about Ulliel for the first time and sent condolences to his family in a video message shown before the screening of Moon Knight at the Louvre Museum in Paris on March 29, 2022. Diab and actor Ethan Hawke talked about what it was like working with Ulliel in an interview for France's BFMTV aired on March 30, 2022. Marvel Studios' official pages shared a tribute to Ulliel for the first time after episode 3 was released on April 13, 2022. The day after the episode was released, France's AlloCiné shared a tribute to Ulliel featuring Diab, Isaac, Hawke and Calamawy.
