Although Samantha and Darrin had interacted as a couple, in the early years, on-camera, Elizabeth Montgomery absolutely did not get along with Dick York, off-camera. He attempted to love her, however, she was very unhappy about this, all because this had got William Asher (Montgomery's real-life third husband) very jealous. Drugs contributed to York's behavior in these situations; he suffered a pain-killer addiction (which lessened it's intended use of aiding his back problems), so he opted to also use alcohol each morning to get himself to the set.
