In early August 2019, the new owners of Twentieth Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company, announced that this movie would be one of the first batch of existing Fox movies to be remade, intended for the Disney+ streaming service. Fans of this movie joked that it would only be a short movie, as Kevin only needed to call using a mobile/cell phone. It's currently unknown if it will be a sequel or a reboot. Additionally, it's unclear how Disney will approach the comedic violence, especially as many doctors have said that the Wet Bandits injuries would actually be life threatening or fatal in reality. In fact, one fan theory suggests that the character of Kevin grew up to become the character of Jigsaw in the violent Saw series of movies.
