The film's production designer, Andrew Plumer, was particularly taken with the South Australian country town of Ceduna on the state's far-west coast and also situated on the the Great Australian Bite and Australia's Nullarbor Plain. "We looked at some of the locations and said 'why change it?'. You couldn't design it better if you built it in a studio. There is a quality of non-design to some of it. For example, Stan [Max Cullen]'s motel...the roadhouse had grown into a motel over two and a half decades, from the 50s to the 70s. We only had to embellish it with props."
