During the original run of The Smurfs on TV DURING THE 1980'S (especially in the United States), a substantive amount of related merchandise was created to coincide, a trend often seen during the 1980's - 1990's with similar cartoons such as Moomin, The Care Bears and My Little Pony. Smurfs merchandise included a large variety of plastic figurines, hand puppets, dishware, VHS tapes, book novelizations, stationary (usually targeted towards grade school children), clothing and even a vinyl record titled "Father Abraham in Smurfland", which featured performed songs referencing various features and moments of The Smurfs.
